Phonological Adaptation of English Loanwords by Urdu Speakers

The purpose of this study is to discuss the common phonetically altered English loanwords used by Urdu speakers. A set three hundred words was analyzed for phonological alterations. areas technology, automobile registration, entertainment, and politics contained most high-frequency loanwords. Through study, it found that native tongue significantly impacts how are pronounced. Most frequently, they substitute / Ə/ ʊ/ in final syllable (c+ Ə +c). Moreover, syllabic consonants, an insertion the/ʊ/ vowel detected after appendix /s/, // epenthesis were at beginning word with a group consonants /s/. Furthermore, vowels /ae/ /o/ have been substituted diphthongs /a/ /Ə ʊ respectively, while /ɔ: /σ/ replaced /a/. Four /θ, ð, w, ʒ/ /, not /tʰ, dʰ, v, j/, respectively.
